10 things people say they love about their managers.

 

Often when I’m running management development training, I’ll ask the group about their previous managers, and what were the qualities they admired. 

 

The following are the top 10 that come up time and time again:

I. Trust: they are trustworthy, and they are trusting.

 

II. Honesty: kept no secrets and were transparent.

 

III. Respect: understood their team member’s differences and worked with them.

 

IV. Empathy: took the time to understand before judging.

 

V. They listen: no REALLY listen

 

VI. Got your back: always felt like they supported you, even when you made mistakes.

 

VII. Stretched: encouraged people to try new things and learn.

 

VIII. Genuine: you knew when you stood with them that there were no game playing or politics.

 

IX. Reliable: they were consistent in their general approach, so you knew what you were getting, and followed through on what they said they would do.

 

X. Accepting: open to your opinions and ideas.
