When you first start out as an advisor in your HR career, your job is to deliver the transactional HR services that enables the business to be successful. This foundation of sound HR products and services can allow HR Consultants to manage HR offerings so that business operations can be effective and achieve outcomes. Managers in the business are looking to their HR consultants to be proactive about improvements and potential.

 

When you make the step towards being a true business partner your business leaders are wanting you to be a thought partner and thought leader. Your job is to Think, your attention is on Strategy and the business leaders are looking for you to Co-create the future with them.

 

My experience of many HR functions is that they do not evolve through this model. Many stay in the area of delivering transactions and/or managing operations. They cite volume of work, requirements of policy or business demands, and I wonder if there could be more to it.   

 

What if it was just a comfort zone thing?
