Last week and this week I delivered some internal training for two different organisations.  

After both (very different) sessions, a number of participants came and spoke to me and declared that this was the best training they had ever received in their career.

You might think I would find this pleasing. And whilst I thanked them for their kind words I actually felt disappointed for two reasons:

(1) Both of these organisations invest extraordinary amounts of money on workplace training delivered by internal and external experts.

(2) Many of the participants were about 15 years into their careers.

That's potentially a lot of time and money wasted on training that may not have been effective or inspired participants to greater performance. My wish is that workplace training was always inspirational, informative, and insightful so that there was never a need to say "best training ever".
