Faciliation One Day Wonder

I was asked to present a session at today's Faciltiation One Day Wonder, organised by the Victorian Chapter of the Australasian Facilitators Network. Apart from the honor of being asked, I was also very excited about sharing the Graphic Recording & Facilitating story to a group of Facilitators.
I also want to give a very public thank you to Ed, Martin & Kim who organised the day. Really well done, and I know the few people that I spent time with outside of the sessions were commenting on how much they were getting out of the day.
My session was on Graphic Recording & Facilitating. With only 60 minutes, it's hard to know what to cover. I had a scathingly brilliant idea at the beginning, to record one of the morning sessions so that people could see the real live work. Below is the chart that I recorded. Not bad on 5

minutes notice!
The speaker, David Hall, ran a great session on the Highlights and Hotspots of doing facilitation work. He then facilitated discussion around a couple of great role plays that draw out some very interesting comments and strategies.
Following David's session, I then delivered my piece on how to do this work. I opened with an "open frame" around questions on what I do, and how I do it, as a number of people had not seen this type of thing before. Questions ranged from "how do you know what to draw?", through to, "how do you manage the power you have at the paper?" That last question had me stumpted for a bit. I had not thought of myself as having any "power" at the paper, however it was pointed out to me, that I make the decision of what goes up and what doesn't.
Again, I had not ever thought about this in this way, as, to be honest, I don't ever feel as if I am making "powerful" decisions. I hear Lynn Carruther's (my mentor) voice simply saying "Content First", and capture the voices of people speaking. I suppose the only decision I make around what to exclude, is only if people are explaining a very long anecdote. Then I wait for the "so my point is......" and capture the point.
I have to admit to being put on the spot, and really thinking about what I capture and what I exclude.
All in all, a great morning, and looking forward to welcoming members of the AFN community to my Graphic Recording & Facilitating workshop in November, 4-5th.
