Is HR up to the challenge?

Last week I had the pleasure of facilitating a strategic planning retreat for a group of senior execs in China.
What struck me is how desperately this group needs support from its HR function. Not for the traditional/ transactional stuff but with true thought partnership and leadership.

I believe a core capability of any HR business partner should be coaching/facilitation closely followed by change management.
Business leaders need this level of support particularly when experiencing major organisation change. Having said that, is there ever a time when organisations aren't experiencing change?
This CEO will be looking to its HR function to help with the massive changes they are facing and I'm looking forward to seeing them step up.
How would your HR function go? Do they have the right stuff that your business leaders need?
- Is your HR function considered counter productive? Do more damage than good and get in the way of the business doing what it needs to?
- Is it considered competent? Can get the basic transactional stuff done?
- Is it considered confident? It knows HRM well and can stand in conviction?
- Is it considered credible? Trusted advisors?
- Is it co-creative? Being invtied in early to advise and help build the organisation of the future?
