Once you are breathing easily, then you can help others. 

 

This is part of the safety briefing when traveling on most airlines. This line comes when they are talking about the oxygen masks dropping from the ceiling in the event of a loss of cabin pressure. 

 

On my most recent flight, it occurred to me that this was a little like many HR functions. They spend a lot of time in the Organisation ensuring others have adequate oxygen.

So, how good is HR at their own development?

 

How good are they at ensuring their leadership skills are up to scratch? As a team how are they working together? Do they have the skills to do what the business needs them to do?

 

Making sure HR has its house in order means that it can be of greater service to the Organisation.
